Community service should be more than collecting volunteer hours.
Through 10 structured workshops , students will create a personalized pathway toward the U.S. Congressional Award while developing meaningful service, leadership, and passion projects connected to their interests and future goals.
This is not simply a course about understanding the Award requirements. Students receive step-by-step guidance to plan their activities, set measurable goals, track their progress, document their impact, and prepare their submission.
A Structured Journey from Planning to Submission
Phase 1: Build a Personalized Roadmap
Students learn the requirements across all four Congressional Award areas:
- Voluntary Public Service
- Personal Development
- Physical Fitness
- Expedition or Exploration
With instructor guidance, students create realistic SMART goals, select appropriate activities, identify potential validators, establish target hours, and begin using a structured system to track progress and documentation.
For younger students or those who benefit from additional support, parent participation may be requested during the early planning sessions.
Phase 2: Take Action and Stay Accountable
Students begin implementing their plans while instructors review their completed activities, hours, documentation, and validator readiness.
Through progress reviews and student presentations, instructors help students identify gaps, address potential risks, and adjust their roadmap and priorities when needed.
Phase 3: Reflect and Communicate Their Impact
Students learn how to explain what they accomplished, what challenges they encountered, what they learned, and how they created meaningful impact.
They receive guidance on submission questions, written reflections, supporting evidence, and presenting their experiences clearly. Students also explore how their activities may connect to personal growth, future leadership opportunities, and possible college application or essay themes.
Phase 4: Prepare for Submission and Higher Award Levels
Students receive hands-on guidance with:
- Submission requirements and documentation
- Written reflection responses
- Evidence and validator confirmation
- The Submittable platform
- Final review and revision of their submission package
Students who have already made greater progress—or who meet the additional requirements—will also receive guidance on working toward the Silver Certificate and building a longer-term roadmap toward Gold.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who is eligible, and when is the best time to start?
Students may register beginning at age 13½, typically around 8th grade, and begin submitting for an Award at age 14.
Starting in 8th or 9th grade gives students more time to progress toward higher Award levels and benefit from leadership, service, and career opportunities throughout high school.
2. How long does it take to earn the Gold Medal?
The Gold Medal requires at least 24 months of sustained participation, along with the official activity and hour requirements. Students do not need to complete Gold during this course. The program helps them build the goals, systems, and long-term roadmap needed to continue progressing.
3. Does my child need prior experience or new activities?
No. Students do not need previous volunteer experience or a completed plan before joining.
Existing activities—such as sports, volunteering, writing, music, or career exploration—may often be developed into meaningful goals. Our instructors help students determine where and how to begin.
4. Does the Award only involve volunteering?
No. Students pursue goals in four areas:
- Voluntary Public Service
- Personal Development
- Physical Fitness
- Expedition or Exploration
Students do not need to be competitive athletes or take an expensive trip. Fitness goals may include activities such as walking or yoga, and some exploration requirements may be completed through structured virtual options.
5. Why join the program instead of completing it independently?
The requirements may appear straightforward, but students often struggle to choose appropriate goals, document activities correctly, stay consistent, and build a realistic path toward higher levels.
6. Is the program only useful for college applications?
No. The Award may strengthen college and scholarship applications, but students can also use their experiences to pursue internships, leadership roles, career exploration, community initiatives, and other recognition opportunities.
Most importantly, they develop confidence, discipline, initiative, and the ability to follow through on long-term goals.
